Liverpool news: Mohamed Salah warning issued in major Premier League claim

That is the opinion of former Liverpool midfielder Don Hutchison.

The Reds are the only team with a 100 per-cent record having claimed 18 points from an available 18 thanks to their 3-0 win over Southampton at the weekend.

Jurgen Klopp’s charges are being tipped to pose a huge threat to Manchester City’s hopes of defending their top-flight title.

Liverpool have improved massively in defence since the January addition of Virgil van Dijk and Klopp also boasts an electric frontline of Salah, Mane and Roberto Firmino, who have scored a combined 100 Premier League goals on Merseyside after Salah’s strike against the Saints.

As a result of their strength at the back and their threat up top, the current crop of players at Anfield are being talked about as one of the strongest squads the club has had in the 26-year history of the Premier League – with Liverpool having never won the title but finished second on three occasions.

But Hutchison believes Klopp’s group are the best ever team Liverpool have had, despite having yet to win a trophy.

And the former Scottish international, who also played for West Ham and Everton, has warned Liverpool’s league rivals that there is still much more to come from their two wide men Salah and Mane even though they have notched seven goals already.

“If you go back to 2013-14, that was a very, very good side that nearly got Liverpool over the line but this is a better team,” Hutchison told Premier League Today.

“This is the best team that Liverpool have ever had in the Premier League. Their record is great, six wins on the spin, no losses.

“I watch Liverpool now and I go, ‘I don’t see many weaknesses.’

“Alisson is a top class goalkeeper, the front three are so good going forward, they can create chances.

“And I don’t even think at the moment Mane and Salah are anywhere near at their best.”

Liverpool’s winning run at the start of the season is only bettered by Chelsea’s nine-match streak of victories between August and October on their way to the 2005-06 title.

The Blues, who Liverpool face twice this week including in the Carabao Cup third round tomorrow night (7.45pm), also won six on the bounce in 2009-10 – another occasion they won the league.

The last team to start the season with six consecutive wins was Man City – who Klopp’s men face a week on Sunday – in 2016-17, though they ended the season in third.

The only other team aside from Chelsea and City to start a Premier League season with at least six wins were Newcastle in 1994-95, who ended up sixth.
