Joker movie: Filming PHOTOS reveal Joaquin Phoenix in clown make-up with bizarre wig

The actor, 43, was seen in full make-up with a bright green wig as he filmed a scene in a phone booth.

Reportedly shooting a scene in which his character gets fired over the phone, he also appeared to try masking himself from nearby photographers whilst in the back of a car.

Director Todd Phillips has been hard at work with Phoenix making the new film, which was recently trailed with a first reveal of the actor in the clown make-up.

The movie will tell the story of The Joker – real name Arthur Fleck – as he goes from a failed comedian to fearsome criminal.

Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy and Marc Maron will also star; but Alec Baldwin allegedly dropped out just two days before shooting began.

“I’m no longer doing that movie,” he had told USA Today.

“I’m sure there are 25 guys who can play that part.”

Last week’s reveal of Phoenix somewhat divided the fanbase online – which is perhaps unsurprising, given the huge shoes he has to fill, after Heath Ledger Jack Nicholson both went down a storm in the part.

“Forgive me, but holy sh** that looks incredible,” reacted one person online.

Another exclaimed: “this screams Cesar Romero and Heath Ledger. Sign me all the way tf up. The music, the background visuals, the creepy smile? INFLUENTIAL.”

But some didn’t take to the look, with one person tweeting: “Painting his face like a clown? Nope. Sorry.

“I hope this is a Mark 1 Joker and something happens to him like, I don’t know, him falling into chemicals like Killing Joke. Not a fan of this if that’s the look.”

Although DC Films do have a hand in producing this movie, Joker is not set within the DCEU – unlike Suicide Squad, which saw Jared Leto play the character.

Films coming up that are set within the DCEU include Aquaman, due for release this December, and Shazam!, out next April.

Wonder Woman 1984 is also in production ahead of a November 2019 release, and Birds of Prey is due to start filming early next year.

Joker is out on October 4, 2019.
