Star Wars 9 cast: Legendary actor speaks out on comeback rumours – ‘I’m excited’

Warwick Davies has appeared multiple times in the Star Wars franchise, including every instalment since Disney took ownership – starting with when JJ Abrams recruited him to play Wollivan in 2015’s The Force Awakens.

So now, with Abrams back at the helm and rumours, theories and alleged leaks running rampant, can we see Davies one more time in the Skywalker saga – as some fans have speculated?

“Who knows?” he coyly told ScreenRant.

“I just kind of have to wait for the phone call. I’m excited along with millions of other fans to find out the conclusion of this Saga.

“I mean, it spans – when did we start – 1977 right the way through to now. It’s epic in every sense of the word.

“JJ is the most fantastic director. I enjoyed working with him the first time I worked with him on Episode 7. So I’m excited to see what he brings to this final chapter in the Skywalker Saga.

“What’s lovely about it, it’s not closing the door on Star Wars. A lot of movies, you say it’s the final chapter and all of this stuff and we’d be going ‘aw, that’s a shame’.

“But we know that’s there’s the potential for much more Star Wars out there yet. So it’s a good time to be a Star Wars fan, isn’t it?”

Davies has played many characters in the franchise, and was also Wodibin in The Last Jedi and Weazel in Solo.

He was also in 1983’s Return of the Jedi, 1999’s The Phantom Menace and 2016’s Rogue One – as different characters each time.

In the same interview with ScreenRant, he said: “I don’t know, it’s nice to be involved, and since [Episode 7] there’s quite a close-knit group of people who go from one film to the next.

“There’s a lot of puppeteers and creature performers in particular who do that because, honestly, in each film we can be made to look different and the characters we perform are very different.

“So I’m kind of swept along with those fantastic performers as well, and then sometimes, depending on who’s writing or who’s directing, they’ll come up with specific things that they particularly think I would be good for. And that’s what I end up doing, which is really fantastic. I love it.”

Episode 9 has already promised to bring back Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian, as well as Mark Hamill as the presumably dead Luke Skywalker.

Carrie Fisher’s Leia will be seen one final time, using unused footage the late actress recorded for the previous two ‘main saga’ movies.

Star Wars: Episode 9 is out in late 2019.
