A Star Is Born: Bradley Cooper was warned NOT to remake classic – by THIS famous friend

Luckily, Cooper did not heed the advice – as the film has picked up strong reviews and is already considered an Oscars favourite.

He learned how to play guitar and sing for the part, taking tips from Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder.

It was Vedder, Cooper said, who told him not to go ahead with his plans.

“I went up to Seattle and spent four or five days with him and I asked him 9,000 questions,” he said, according to MovieWeb.

“And he gave me minor, little things that only musicians know about what to do, just aesthetically and the inner workings.”

He added: “[Vedder] thought it was crazy I was going to do this movie. He was like, ‘What? Bro, don’t do that.'”

A Star Is Born has been made multiple times, starting in 1937 with the version starring Janet Gaynor and Fredric March.

In 1954, Judy Garland and James Mason starred in the first remake; before Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson starred in 1976.

Lady Gaga is Cooper’s co-star, and both have been collecting early awards season buzz and extremely stong reviews.

Also in the cast is RuPaul’s Drag Race favourite Shangela, after being invited by Gaga to audition.

The reality TV favourite told Metro.co.uk: “On set, Bradley Cooper is one of those directors you just dream about working with.

“Even though it’s his directorial debut, it felt like he’d been doing this forever. He was so warm, and he knew so much about the LGBTQ community we were creating in this scene, and he was also interested to know more, so it was really cool and super refreshing to work with him.”

And of Gaga, Shangela said: “Even though she’s very focussed as an actress, she always let her hair down and had a good time with us.

“She’d say, ‘Tell us another story, Shan!’ She called me Shan. It was so cool to have that time with her.

“She’s a very down to earth real person on set.”

A Star Is Born is out on October 3 in the UK.
