Chelsea team news: Predicted Chelsea line up vs Liverpool – defensive injury crisis update

Chelsea will be desperate to get stuck into their Premier League clash with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge this weekend after their midweek 2-1 victory over the Reds in the Carabao Cup.

A moment of breathtaking skill from Eden Hazard obliterated the Liverpool defence before he slammed home the winner at Anfield.

The Blues squad will be in high spirits ahead hosting the current league leaders, but Maurizio Sarri faces some big decisions due to a defensive injury crisis.

Antonio Rudiger missed the cup showdown, and Andreas Christensen was substituted after picking up a knock.

That leaves Chelsea with just two fit centre-backs in the shape of David Luiz and Gary Cahill.

The pair are almost certain to partner each other on Saturday, though a back-up plan could involve Cesar Azpilicueta returning to the middle and Davide Zappacosta starting the game at right-back.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Pedro are also doubts for the game, limiting Sarri’s midfield options.

Hazard and Willian will start on either wing, with Olivier Giroud expected to get the nod ahead of Alvaro Morata up front.

The Spanish striker’s search for a goal continues, with just one strike in all competitions this season and a total of four in 2018.

At the same time, Giroud must also up his production rate with the French striker yet to notch this season.

The former Arsenal targetman has racked up three assists though, proving to be a good foil for Hazard to wreak havoc.

Sarri knows his men face a tough test against Liverpool – who have won all six of their Premier League games this season – but the midweek game offered plenty of hope.

Predicted Chelsea team vs Liverpool

(4-3-3) Arrizabalaga; Azpilicueta, Cahill, Luiz, Alonso; Kante, Jorginho, Kovacic; Willian, Giroud, Hazard.
