It was initially believed that the Queen of Pop would be unveiling her fourteenth studio album in 2018, but she’s now confirmed it will hit shelves at some stage in 2019.

The 60-year-old told WWD: “I’m finishing my record, which I’m going to release next year.

“Yep, in between rose mist spray and serums, I’m actually making music. Can’t quit my day job.”

She is also believed to be plotting a tour to accompany the record.

Madonna recently moved to Lisbon – and said the new culture she is immersed in has helped to influence her sound.

“In Alfama, you’ll hear people singing and playing fado music everywhere,” she told Vogue Italia.

“There are these weekly sessions called living room sessions which pop up in people’s beautiful homes that are 500 years old, and you walk up the marble steps which are lined with candles into the living room which is also dimly lit with candles.

“And there’s this rolling, very intimate performance happening where people play, they sing, they recite poetry.”

“It’s like a salon; something which doesn’t really exist in many places anymore – people elsewhere say, ‘Call my manager, this is how much I charge.’

“I’m pretty sure in Lisbon people would do these shows and not get paid, they just do them for the love of what they do, and for me, this is glorious and inspiring.”

Madonna is the highest-grossing solo touring artist of all time, responsible for around $1.4 billion in ticket sales.

She’s also the best-selling female artist of all time, and the second highest-certified female artist in the US – with 300 million global record sales.

Madonna’s last album was 2015’s Rebel Heart, which charted at No2 in the US and UK.

It spawned singles such as Living For Love, Ghosttown and B**** I’m Madonna; as well as the Rebel Heart Tour, which gained positive reviews and sold over a million tickets.

The era was an impressive continuation of a recording career which started in the early 1980s with her eponymous debut album, 1983’s Madonna.

She has 13 UK number one hits to her name; most recently 4 Minutes, alongside Justin Timberlake and Timbaland, in 2008. The only acts with more are Elvis Presley (21), The Beatles (17), Cliff Richard (14) and Westlife (14).
