Keira Knightley BANS daughter watching Disney movies that lack feminist values – WATCH
Disney movies are loved the world over, but the Pirates of the Caribbean star wants to shelter her daughter from some of them.
Ironically Knightley appeared on The Ellen Show yesterday to promote her new Disney movie, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, when she revealed which House of Mouse titles were apparently too sexist for her child to watch.
The two that got the chop were 1950’s Cinderella and 1989’s The Little Mermaid.
Speaking boldly, the 33-year-old said: “Cinderella. Banned. Because y’know she waits around for a rich guy to rescue her.”
She continued: “Don’t. Rescue yourself, obviously.”
“And this is the one that I’m quite annoyed about because I really like the film, but Little Mermaid [is banned, too].
“I mean, the songs are great, but do not give your voice up for a man. Hello!.”
Knightley added: “But the problem with The Little Mermaid is – I love The Little Mermaid! That one’s a little tricky – but I’m keeping to it.”
Nevertheless, a few of Disney’s more recent efforts were approved of for her daughter, including Ellen’s Finding Dory.
“Dory is a big favourite in our house, so that’s totally finally.
“Frozen is huge, Moana – totally fine.”
A couple of years ago David Lowery, the director of the live-action remake of Pete’s Dragon revealed the three types of action banned from Disney movies.
He said: “When you sign a contract with Disney, the things it says your film cannot have are beheadings, impalement or smoking.
“Those are literally the three things you are not allowed to put into a Disney film.”
The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is released in UK cinemas on November 2, 2018.
