The former Secretary of State and two-time presidential candidate admitted she would “like to be president” as she revealed she would think about her political future following the November 6 elections.

When asked whether she wanted to run again, Ms Clinton said: “No, No,” before conceding “well I’d like to be president”.

Hillary Clinton, 71, then bizarrely appeared to recite her career experience, saying she felt “very well prepared” for the “work” that awaits a new Democratic president in 2020.

During an interview with Kara Swisher for the Recode Decode podcast, Mrs Clinton said: “I think, hopefully, when we have a Democrat in the Oval Office in January of 2021, there’s going to be so much work to be done.

“I mean we have confused everybody in the world, including ourselves. We have confused our friends and our enemies.

“They have no idea what the United States stands for, what we’re likely to do, what we think is important, so the work would be work that I feel very well prepared for having been at the Senate for eight years, having been a diplomat in the State Department, and it’s just going to be a lot of heavy lifting.

Mrs Clinton ran for US president in 2016 but was pipped to the post by former businessman and Republican Donald Trump, despite wining the popular vote.

She added: “I’m not even going to even think about it until we get through this November 6 election about what’s going to happen after that.”

But sources close to the former First Lady refuted claims Mrs Clinton would be running for presidency again.

US political journalist Amie Parnes reported Mrs Hillary is “not running for president again,” citing “longtime advisers and confidants.”

One source told her “it’s not a real thing,” before saying Mrs Clinton is “more likely to win Powerball” than to run.

Mrs Clinton recently used a recent bomb scare at her home in New York to rally support for Democratic candidates ahead of the midterm elections

A suspicious package was addressed to the former US Secretary of State was intercepted at her residence in Chappaqua, New York last month.

Mrs Clinton was not at home when the package was found as she was campaigning for the Democratic Party in Florida.

Speaking to supporters in Tallahassee, Mrs Clinton briefly addressed the bomb threat before getting into rally mode: “We are fine thanks to the men and women of the secret service who intercepted the package addressed to us long before it made its way to our home.

“It is a troubling time and it is a time of deep divisions. We have to do everything we can to bring our country together.

“We also have to elect candidates who will try to do the same, who will set goals that will lift up every single Floridian and American, who will look into the future to understand what their challenges we have to meet today so that our children and grand-children have the quality of life and the opportunities that we hope for them.”
