Vanessa Hudgens Princess Switch Netflix film with Nashville hunk: Trailer and release date

It looks cheesy, ridiculous, saccharine and very, very silly.

Which means it is virtually irresistible.

Made-for-TV romcom movies have rarely relied on grityy reality for their clockwork Christmas releases and now Netflix has waded into the wish-fulfilling waters.

As is usual with these royal confections, we are whisked off to a fictional tiny European principality that sounds familiar because it is a mish-mash of existing places. This time it is the marvellous Belgravia, which, until now, has been an actual (and genuinely posh) part of London.

Hudgens plays the snooty Margaret, Duchess of (the equally fictional) Montenero.

With an eye for the ongoing popularity of cookery shows, the set-up takes place at a baking competition where the duchess runs into her spitting image, feisty Chicago baker Stacy, also played by the same star. Quelle surprise.

They impulsively decided to swap lives, loves and dodgy accents, as you do, and much mishap and merriment ensues. 

It’s an iconic cinematic traditon stretching back to 1961’s Parent Trap (and the 1988 Lindsay Lohan remake) and if it ain’t broke…

And if you think the handsome prince looks familiar, it is a welcome return for Nashville and Humans star, Sam Palladio. Palladio spent six seasons as the sweet Gunnar Scott on Nashville. Hopefully he will be more lucky in love here.

The Brit plays Prince Edward (no, not that one) who is engaged to Margaret.

Viewers will be shocked (and possibly scandalised) as Margaret starts to fall for Stacy’s hunky co-worker, played by Nick Sagar, Shadowhunters’ Victor Aldertree.

Stacy, meanwhile.. Well, you guessed it.
