Meghan Markle & Prince Harry buy Christmas tree from THIS shop: 'Our jaws hit the FLOOR'

Meghan Markle and her Prince, Harry, bought a special Christmas tree for their home last year as they spent their last festive period together before becoming man and wife. The young royals, who wed in May, were said to be “charming” when they walked into Battersea Park store Pines and Needles in December last year. The couple opted to spend their cash in a shop that takes Christmas and conscience as equal measures of importance. Pines and Needles is famously a ‘Christmas with a conscience’ grower, with a Christmas Forest collection where more than 250,000 trees were planted in Africa through TreeAid. Prince Harry and Meghan bought a 6ft Nordmann fir, which this year would set them back £59.95.

And it would be safe to say founders Sam and Josh Lyle were astounded when the royal couple walked through their doors into the winter wonderland.

They told Express.co.uk: ”We have looked after some of Britain’s highest profile names for nearly 20 years but you could have heard a pin drop – or a needle – when Prince Harry and Meghan walked into the store.

“They were completely charming together and blissfully unaware that our jaws had hit the floor.”

The youngsters added: “They chose a gorgeous Nordmann Fir and walked away after exchanging Christmas pleasantries.”

This year will be Meghan and Harry’s first together as man and wife, and no doubt the pair will want to make it special as next year there will be three in the house.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex started married life in Nottingham Cottage, but with the arrival of their baby pencilled in for next spring a move was on the cards.

The couple’s former home was a two bed property, but next year there will be three of them in the house – if Meghan’s mum Doria comes to visit, she could be on the royals’ sofa. 

So the young couple have moved into Apartment 1b of Kensington Palace, neighbouring Prince William and his wife Kate, and their three children George, Charlotte and Louis. 

The move to Kensington Palace means Harry and Meghan will be swarmed with staff on hand for their every need, which will be a change for the husband and wife following their departure from the cottage, which Meghan decorated with scented candles, throws and flowers.

Kensington Palace has been housing members of the royal family for years and also served as the home of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.

This year will be the second Christmas the Duchess of Sussex has spent with the Royal Family in Sandringham. BUt it will be first where she will be required to follow the royal traditions which includes not opening presents on Christmas Day.

The Royal Family’s website states: “On Christmas Eve, The Royal Family lay out their presents on trestle tables and will exchange their gifts at teatime.”

And Meghan can expect to receive something special from the Queen.
