Two years ago Star Wars fans lost their Princess Leia, as Carrie Fisher died aged just 60. Having already shot The Last Jedi, she gave a stunning final performance as her iconic character when it was released a year later. With Episode IX still to go, however, fans were wondering how they would handle the conclusion of the trilogy without her. There was talk over using a CG reconstruction, like Peter Cushing’s Grand Moff Tarkin and younger Leia in Rogue One.

Even some fans petitioned for Meryl Streep, a close friend of Fisher’s and reasonable lookalike, to play Leia in her place.

However, Lucasfilm soon made an announcement that Fisher would star in Star Wars 9 via unused scenes from The Force Awakens.

Now her brother Todd has teased how this will be done in a new interview.

Speaking with Good Morning America, he said: “There’s a lot of minutes of footage. I don’t mean just outtakes.”

“I gotta watch myself because the Star Wars PD is going to come get me, but it is incredible,” she told Entertainment Tonight.

“I’ve read the script and I’ve been on set. I was on set for, like, three weeks back in September, and it is going to be magical.”

“I can’t say much more, but I’m so excited about it and so grateful to be a part of it. Star Wars is my heart. I love it.”

Star Wars: Episode IX will be released in UK cinemas on December 19, 2019.
