The Greatest Showman: Hugh Jackman celebrates soundtrack as BEST-SELLING album of 2018
Boxing Day 2017. The Greatest Showman hit cinemas and had a disappointing opening week. However, following word of mouth and sing-a-long revisits, the film went on to huge box office success. It should come as little surprise then, that it’s probably thanks to the incredibly popular soundtrack. As 2018 closed, The Greatest Showman was officially announced as the best-selling album of the year.
Jackman himself shared the chart on his Instagram, showing that The Greatest Showman beat the likes of Drake, Post Malone and Ed Sheeran, in the United World Chart, with over 5.4 million units sold.
The 50-year-old star wrote: “Never in my wildest dreams.”
Other records for the soundtrack include it becoming only the second album in 30 years to spend 11 consecutive weeks at No 1.
While in its 20th week in the UK Albums Chart The Greatest Showman became the longest running soundtrack at number 1 in 50 years, surpassing Saturday Night Fever.
