Right place, right time, right heroes…

That’s the story around the crew of the Alcatraz Clipper, which managed to rescue 10 passengers of another boat that had struck a rock near Alcatraz in San Francisco Bay.

According to reports by ABC News 7 in San Francisco, Captain Erik “Tubby” Anfinson received the Coast Guard-issued call that another ship was in distress, and he sprung into action along with his crew.

The Lunna was taking on water fast, and it’s ten passengers needed help immediately. Moments after safely boarding the Clipper, those passengers would see their old boat sink to the bottom of the bay.

“Captain Tubby handled it like he had ice water in his veins,” ABC 7 quoted deckhand Shawn Christin as saying.

Wait until the end, because the best part of the video (other than, you know, the saving lives part) is when the 400-plus Clipper passengers erupt in thunderous applause.

The Alcatraz Clipper is owned and operated by Alcatraz Excursions, and though the Clipper doesn’t dock at the famous prison, the company promises unparalleled views of San Francisco Bay. They also offer all sorts of dinner cruises as well as educational sightseeing tours.

Now, they can also add “light rescue work” to their possible itineraries.
