Avengers Endgame: How Chris Evans’ Captain America could RETURN to the MCU
After starring across seven MCU movies as Captain America, Chris Evans finally hung up his shield in Avengers Endgame. Many fans thought Steve Rogers would kick the bucket, but that sacrificial moment went to Robert Downey Jr’s Iron Man. Instead, Cap was tasked with returning the Infinity Stones to their different points in time.
However, he never returned back to 2023, missing his time travel window.
Instead, Steve Rogers headed to post-World War II USA where he had the life with Peggy Carter he always wanted.
Now well over 100 years old in 2023, the Avenger handed his shield over to Falcon to become the new Captain America.
Since Avengers Endgame released a year ago, Evans has been asked on a number of occasions if he would like to return as Captain America to the MCU one day.

Old Captain America is still alive in the MCU
Most recently, Evans was asked on The Graham Norton Show, to which he replied: “It’s not a hard no, but it’s not an eager yes either.
“I think Cap had such a tricky act to stick the landing, and I think they did a really nice job letting him complete his journey.
“If you’re going to revisit it, it can’t be a cash grab.
“It can’t be just because the audience wants to be excited.”
Chris Evans would only return as Captain America for a really good reason narratively
The 38-year-old added: “What are we revealing?
“What are we adding to the story?
“A lot of things would have to come together.”
Now if he is convinced to return to the MCU one day, there are at least a couple of ways it would make sense narratively.

Firstly, Steve Rogers is still around in the current MCU.
He’s elderly and could easily cameo in giving advice or assisting the likes of Falcon and The Winter Soldier, who are getting their very own Disney+ show later this year.
At some point, Steve’s funeral may even take place like Peggy Carter’s in Captain America: Civil War.
But a more obvious return would be for a time-travelling or alternate Captain America to show up.
This is a technique used by the long-running sci-fi show Doctor Who, in which past incarnations of the time traveller return for anniversary episodes.
For example, the 50th anniversary episode saw David Tennant reprise the role three years after he left it.
Similarly, in five to 10 years, Cap could appear through a portal from the past to assist the New Avengers.
After all, he’s just lived through most of the 20th century so could pop forward in time to help at any point.
