The Sports Illustrated Swimsuit issue was created to bring readers to the men’s interest magazine during a month that was low on sporting news.

Since then it has come synonymous with racy shoots featuring semi-nude models.

Now the 2018 cover model for the issue has been revealed to be Danielle Herrington.

The 24-year-old model is from Compton, California, however, she now lives in Brooklyn, New York.

She is the third black woman to appear on the cover of the magazine.

Prior to her breakout in Sports Illustrated’s Rookie Class last year, she has also modelled for Juicy Couture.

The model has 81.9k followers on Instagram.

She posted an image of the cover to her Instagram account and said: “THANK YOU @si_swimsuit for having me on your COVER.

“This is my first cover ever and I am beyond speechless!

“I dedicate this to all the young girls out there.

“Work hard, surround yourself with good people who believe in you and your DREAMS WILL COME TRUE!

This year’s Rookie Class featured Former Miss Universe Olivia Culpo and Christie Brinkley’s daughter Sailor Brinkley Cook

Model Alexis Ren won the coveted Rookie of the Year title.
