Labour to announce Brexit PLOT that could leave the UK in negotiations with the EU FOREVER

The Government has been clear that when Parliament votes on the final deal, they are voting to either accept the terms or to leave the trade bloc with no agreement with Brussels.

Jeremy Corbyn’s Shadow Brexit Secretary, Sir Keir Starmer, is planning to announce a Labour plan to make an amendment to the European Union Withdrawal Bill that would mean negotiations must continue if Parliament disagrees with the final deal.

In a speech in Birmingham he will say: “If Parliament rejects the Prime Minister’s deal, that cannot give licence to her – or the extreme Brexiteers in her party – to allow the UK to crash out without an agreement.

“That would be the worst of all possible worlds.

“That is why in the coming days – and working with others in the Lords and the Commons – Labour will ensure that an amendment is tabled to the EU Withdrawal Bill to strengthen the terms of Parliament’s meaningful vote.”

The new Labour position could see the UK dragged into endless negotiations with the EU27 if opposing factions of the House of Commons fail to ever agree on a final negotiation deal.

If passed, the amendment could see the UK held to ransom by Remoaners who will never be happy with Brexit.

Sir Keir will add: “Our amendment would make it clear that, should the Prime Minister’s deal be defeated, it must be for Parliament to say what happens next, not the executive.”

Under the plan, if Parliament rejects the deal, MPs would vote on a Commons motion instructing the Government what to do next.

Theresa May’s party has argued leaving open the possibility of more talks means that EU negotiators won’t give Britain the best deal possible during the current negotiations.

The speech outlines the latest Brexit proposal in an ever-changing policy from the official opposition.

Labour have appeared to flip-flop on their position since the referendum, changing their opinion on whether they want to hold a second referendum and whether they want to remain in the customs union.

Yesterday Sir Keir admitted there are deep splits within his party on Brexit.

The politician warned almost nobody in Labour agree on the issue.

He said: “Almost everybody in the Labour Party has a view on Brexit.

“But almost no two people have the same view.

“They all give me their opinions all of the time in texts, in emails, in one-to-one conversations, in groups.

“My strong view has been informed by my strong belief that we really cannot allow the Labour party to divide and break up on the issue.

“We have got to hold the party together, and of course that means there are huge challenges.”
