eBay: Rare 50p coins sell for £1,175 – Beatrix Potter coins including Peter Rabbit

Rare Beatrix Potter coins sold for a whopping £1,175 for a collection of only four coins on eBay yesterday.

The 2016 set of coins inspired by the British author prove a huge hit on the website when it was sold for the massive sum by eBay user “thumperzz01”.

They wrote of the listing: “2016 Set Of 4 Beatrix Potter Silver Proof Coloured 50p’s. The coins you see in the pictures are the coins you will receive.

“Coins will be sent by Royal Mail special delivery once payment has been received.

“Please note, there is a slight mark on the outer sleeve for the Peter Rabbit Coin as photo’d.”

Regardless of the small mark on the Peter Rabbit coin sleeve, the collection still sold for a huge sum.

This was the first Beatrix Potter collection to be released, honouring the authors and her adorable characters.

Featuring Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle-Duck, Mrs Tiggywinkle and Squirrel Nutkin, this coins are all silver-proof, making them high collectible.

Royal Mint said of the collection: “The love of Beatrix Potter’s ‘small books for small hands’ has been passed down through generations, delighting readers across the world to this day.”

Now even more sweet characters are being added to the Royal Mint’s offering of Beatrix Potter coins.

The minting company said: “Following the success of ‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit’, the author and illustrator returned to rabbits for several of her little tales, knowing the adventurous bunnies were firm favourites with her young readers.

“Flopsy Bunny is the third rabbit, following Peter and Benjamin, to be featured on a UK 50p coin, continuing our series celebrating the life and work of Beatrix Potter.

“For this new coin Flopsy Bunny is pictured wearing her recognisable little cape, which has been highlighted by colour printing.”

Flopsy Bunny is the wife and cousin of Benjamin Bunny.

The collection was sold just a few days after the same collection was bought on eBay for £1,170.

Recently a rare £2 coin was selling for £1,750.
