Avengers Infinity War tickets DESTROY Black Panther records: Can it beat Star Wars?

Early box office predictions had suggested Avengers 3 was holding steady with Black Panther.

It was being tentatively predicted an opening weekend around the $200million mark.

All that has changed.

New figures released today have revealed the staggering fact that Infinity War is selling more advance tickets than the last SEVEN Marvel blockbusters combined – and that includes Black Panther.

Major US ticket site Fadango reported the news.

Their online managing editor Erik Davies wrote: “Honestly I was expecting this movie to be big, but to have sold more tix than the last seven MCU movies COMBINED is pretty nuts.

“You’re including Black Panther, Civil War, Guardians Vol 2, Thor: Ragnarok, Ant-Man, Spider-Man: Homecoming and Doctor Strange.”

To pass Black Panther, Infinity War needs to take more than $202million on its opening weekend and is already selling more than double the advance tickets of its clawed competitor.

But what about Star Wars?

The next films in range are another Marvel classic, The Avengers with $207.4 million, and Jurassic World’s $208.8 million. 

After that it is a superhero jump to the two new Star Wars trilogy entries. Based on the latest figures and with excitement and ticket sales only likely to keep growing in the remaining two weeks to release, Infinity War could catch Star Wars: The Last Jedi on $220 million. 

To become the biggest box office hit of the modern era, it will need to pull in a whopping $248 million to blast past Star Wars: The Force Awakens. 

That might be out of Thanos’ reach, even if he get all six Infinity Stones…
