The first two movies both went down incredibly well with Marvel fans, and now – after work on Avengers: Infinity War and its yet-to-be-released sequel Avengers 4 – work can begin on the third and final chapter.

Pratt told ET Canada: “Um, I know the story. It’s going to be freaking amazing.

“This is, very intentionally [and] essentially, the wrap-up of a trilogy, and so the first film, the second film, and the third film each are standalone films.

“But there’s an arc from the first to second to third that will wrap up through the film, and it’s imaginative, it’s big — it’s bigger, better, faster, stronger, funnier.”

He added: “It’s gonna be great, I’m so excited.”

Pratt is now a firm member of the Marvel family after playing Star-Lord in the two Guardians capers, as well as Avengers 3 and 4.

Last year James Gunn confirmed that he would return to write and direct the caper, saying on Facebook that he will “conclude the story of this iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, and help catapult both old and new Marvel characters into the next ten years and beyond.”

He wrote: “I will be working side-by-side with Kevin Feige and the gang to help design where these stories go, and make sure the future of the Marvel Cosmic Universe is as special and authentic and magical as what we have created so far.

“I promise you, the fans, I’ll do it all with integrity and love and respect for the characters.”

The first Guardians of the Galaxy movie took a radiant $773.3 million at the global box office, winning a 91% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes in the process.

Its sequel, released last year, managed an even better $863.8 million, though the critical response dipped slightly to 83%.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 is out on May 1, 2020.
