Avengers 4: Will THIS superhero save the day after Infinity War? It's NOT who you think

WARNING: SPOILERS AHEAD – Do not read on if you have yet to see Avengers: Infinity War.

Multiple Marvel heroes, as expected, were not to be seen: Ant-Man star Paul Rudd was busy filming Ant-Man And The Wasp, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel won’t make her debut until next year’s solo film, and – perhaps more surprisingly – Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye was just as M.I.A. as he was in the trailers.

But there’s someone else.

Last year Gwyneth Paltrow appeared to give away that she would be donning Rescue’s armour once again, as she reprises the role of Pepper Potts.

Back in 2009’s Iron Man 3, Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr) put Pepper in a suit to protect her, and she then saved him from his own house collapsing.

When Paltrow was then seen in a motion-caption suit whilst taking to Instagram from the set late last year, it was assumed that we’d see her as Rescue once again – complete with superhuman strength and flight.

This didn’t happen in Infinity War – she had one scene at the start of the movie and another ADR-recorded phone call later on, but nothing Rescue-related. So can we look forward to it in 2019? And will she play a big part in the film’s resolution?

Either way, it sounds like she will be more prominent in the sequel, after telling The Hollywood Reporter: “I went to Atlanta to do Avengers 4, so I’m in and out for that, and it’s weird to go back and forth.

“We’re [Goop] growing fast, and balls are dropping all the time. But honestly, I was on set and thought, ‘You sit here for two hours sipping tea, Robert Downey Jr. and Don Cheadle are making me laugh hysterically – why the hell did I give this up?’”

Avengers: Infinity War is a box office monster: it snagged $39 million just from Thursday night previews in the US, before taking an astronomical $106m on its opening day.

It is, for what it’s worth, one of the biggest single-day grosses ever, according to Forbes – behind Star Wars movies The Last Jedi and The Force Awakens.

Avengers: Infinity War ending with multiple deaths of MCU characters has proved to be a huge talking point amongst fans online – and now speculation turns to who will actually come back in the sequel at all.

With so many of the apparently deceased already being linked to sequel movies further down the line, it seems safe to assume that we haven’t seen the last of them quite yet.

Avengers: Infinity War is out now.
