The critically acclaimed artist received outstanding reviews for both of her records released through Sony’s RCA, including last year’s The Dreaming Room.

The LP was also shortlisted for the Mercury Music Prize, just like its predecessor – 2013’s Sing To The Moon.

However, she posted on Twitter on Thursday: “so sad Sony have dropped me today but thankful for where they’ve gotten me to. Excited for the future. so much music I want to write.”

“Been there babes, brighter and free-er pastures ahead,” Charlotte Church replied.

“Well hey- it’s their loss right?” added Lenny Henry.

Ellie Goulding said: “I think you are wonderful Laura. On to new exciting things x.”

Bastille wrote on their page: “We all think you’re f**king brilliant Laura, and cannot wait to hear what you do next.”

“You are going to go forward and smash it!!!!! It’s a new dawn a new light,” posted Paloma Faith.

Hozier said: “Very sad to read this but your work speaks for itself, is too good and necessary to stop. I trust & look forward to what’s next.”

Cynthia Eviro wrote: “so much love to you love, you have beauty we are all waiting to see!!”

BRITs Critics’ Choice winner Rag’n’Bone Man tweeted: “wow that’s crazy, just keep being bloody Brilliant!!!”

“sending you good thoughts and support! Something better will come!” added US actress Anika Noni Rose.

The decision is presumably influenced by the commercial performance of The Dreaming Room, which charted at No21 last June.
