Avengers Infinity War PLOT HOLE: Is there a big problem with Thanos and his evil plan?

WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War.

In the new Marvel movie, the Josh Brolin-played character sets about collecting six Infinity Stones – so he can wipe out half of humanity.

The reason, he claims, is because universe has become overpopulated, and resources are running thin. If he can wipe out half of everyone, there will be plenty left for those who remain.

But fans have spotted a big hole in his logic.

Couldn’t Thanos have used all of the stones to simply provide more resources for everyone, rather than killing everyone?

With the Reality stone, the user can create alternate realities. With the Power stone, one can access and manipulate forms of energy. With the Space stone, one can move throughout reality.

With these three alone, surely Thanos could have done some good?

It’s not gone unacknowledged on Twitter, with @LoveOrJunel saying: “Tatay Thanos had all the stones so he could have created an infinite set of universes. He could have chosen to create non-finite means of creating resources to provide for everyone. Yet, he, a murderer, never had the heart and the mind to become the leader of the multiverses.”

@Lemuel54455341 said: “instead of ending half the universe because too many people consume too many resources, I wonder if Thanos had the power to PROVIDE for the whole universe lol. As well as bring his dead people back to life.”

@kroliakogane asked: “why. why couldn’t thanos just double the number of resources in the universe consider he has all the infinity stones and could have bent reality?”

Whilst @LonelyGoomba said: “This isn’t really a spoiler. But if Thanos is concerned for the universes resources/population… Why not just use the stones to create said resources + food etc and save the day?”

In fairness, the story isn’t over yet – so maybe we’ll get a better insight in Avengers 4. Or perhaps there’s nothing else to it apart from the fact that Thanos is a very bad person with a twisted mind.

But whatever the case, the damage that he has caused his huge – and from the look of the end-credits scene, it looks like our heroes are banking on one particular person to help restore order.
