Avengers Infinity War ending explained: What do Infinity War after credits mean?

All seemed lost at Infinity War’s climax with literally half of all life across the universe disintegrating as intergalactic villain Thanos activated the Infinity Gauntlet with a snap of his fingers.

In a shocking climax, superheroes disappeared into the void including big favourites Spider-Man and Black Panther.

Fans have been waiting years for this cliffhanger since the explosive scene was first realised in the 1991 Marvel comic book series The Infinity Gauntlet.

In previous Marvel movies, Thanos and his henchmen plotted to gather all six infinity stones in the villain’s bid to wipe out all humanity.

So by the time the credits rolled, it seemed like Thanos had won and all hope was gone with 12 superheroes perishing along with billions of people. 

What do Infinity War after credits mean?

But despite the bloodbath end, hope was given in a major twist as a post-credits clip revealed.

In it, a desperate Nick Fury is seen transmitting a distress signal as he starts disintegrating alongside several of his superhero friends.

Before he is obliterated, viewers can see new hero Captain Marvel has been contacted just in time.

The superhuman woman, who will be played by Brie Larson in next year’s Captain Marvel movie, gets the notification as displayed by a star insignia on a red and blue background.

This means there is a real possibility of her starring in the Avengers 4 film, a sequel to Avengers Infinity War.

In the meantime, it might throw up a few extra questions in the meantime, namely why Captain Marvel was not summoned earlier and how she is supposed to take on Thanos who has the Infinity Gauntlet?

Who dies in Avengers: Infinity War by the end?

Not every superhero in the massive cast perishes but a fair number do disintegrate including Barnes, Drax, Maria Hill, Groot, Mantis, Maximoff, Parker, Quill, Strange, T’Challa, and Wilson.

Tony Stark and Nebula are last seen on Titan while the others are left on Wakandan battlefield.

When is Avengers 4 out?

The as-of-yet untitled film to Avengers: Infinity War has been named informally as Avengers 4 and will be released on May 3, 2019.

Filming has already finished and much of the cast in the existing movie are expected to return – even those supposedly wiped out.

Thanos, who is seen murdering Loki at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, vows there will be “no resurrections this time” but Marvel characters have been known to return before.
