Avengers Infinity War spoiler: Who died in Infinity War? SPOILERS

The film follows the basic premise of Iron Man, Thor, the Hulk and the rest of the Avengers uniting to battle the evil Thanos who is on a mission to collect all six Infinity Stones.

The Russo brothers, directors of the latest Marvel instalment, had warned audiences that no characters in the blockbuster were safe, and they weren’t joking: fan favourite Loki is killed off in the first few minutes of the film.

The rest of the film sees a fair few favourites meet a grisly end at Thanos’s hand, however it’s the end of the film that sees a Marvel massacre as Thanos begins to make characters ‘disintegrate’.

Thanos, in his plan to destroy half the universe, disintegrates one after another with a simple snap of his fingers – but are they really dead? The internet is awash with that question.

The answer seems to be no, they probably aren’t, and we should see enough of our favourites return in the next instalment.

So who died, and who was disintegrated?

As mentioned, Loki is a goner from the get-go. In a turn of character, he ends up being a good guy, helping to save Thor before meeting his maker at Thanos’s hand.

Heimdall, Thor’s best friend, is murdered by Thanos and his children, much to Thor’s dismay.

Thanos proves his mettle when sacrificing the life of his adopted daughter Gamora by pushing her off a cliff to further his mission and collect another Infinity Stone.

Vision has her head crushed in by Thanos when he turns back time and retrieves another stone.

On the list of those who disintegrated we have T’Challa (otherwise known as Black Panther), Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Winter Soldier, Falcon, Scarlet Witch, The Guardians of the Galaxy, Nick Fury and Maria Hill.

Fear not: some, if not all, of the disintegrated will return to our screens at some point. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 has already been confirmed by director James Gunn, so they’ll need some characters for that.

Fans are also eager to point out that it is highly unlikely that new favourites such as Black Panther are really dead. Wakanda forever, remember?

And if all else fails, some crucial characters made it through the massacre: Iron Man, Thor, Black Widow, the Hulk, War Machine, Rocket, Nebula, Okoye and M’baku all survived.

A few characters also went AWOL: Shuri, Pepper Potts, Captain Marvel, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, The Collector and Valkyrie are all M.I.A.

Now you’ll just have to wait for the next instalment to see who will make it in the long run – the as yet untitled sequel is scheduled to be released on May 3 2019.
