Avengers Infinity War: How [SPOILER] can stay DEAD for real AND return after Avengers 4

WARNING SPOILER FOR AVENGERS INFINITY WAR AHEAD

Marvel fans have been pointing out a potential problem after seeing Avengers Infinity War.

Major characters like Black Panther, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man and most of the Guardians of the Galaxy died, but are returning for sequels in 2019 and beyond.

So in a way it’s already known their deaths will be reversed in Avengers 4, which doesn’t exactly make the stakes feel so high.

However screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely have confirmed the deaths are real, so how are Marvel going to get around this?

The writers said: “[Avengers 4] doesn’t do what you think it does. It is a different movie than you think it is. Also…[the deaths are] real.”

If it’s not a simple case of getting the Time Stone and reversing Thanos’ evil genocide, how will the horrors of Avengers Infinity War’s ending be turned around?

Well directors Joe and Anthony Russo said: “I will say this: There is a real commitment on our end to the stakes.

“Yes, this is a fantasy world, and yes, remarkable things can happen in a fantasy world, but…they come at an incredibly high cost.”

Just what could that cost be? Well interestingly Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel are released before Avengers 4 – both set before Avengers Infinity War.

The two solo outings are due to reveal more about the Quantum Realm and presumably the Marvel multi-verse, as introduced in Doctor Strange.

Now if those 20 odd superheroes really are dead and buried, one way they could return is if post-Avengers 4 is set in a parallel universe.

This would mean the Black Panther, Spider-Man and others who continue in Marvel Phase 4 are their alternate selves from another universe where Thanos’ plan was thwarted.

Joe Russo has even teased just how different Marvel Phase 4 will be.

He said: “I think massively different.

“I think that this is if Marvel has been writing a book for ten years, [Avengers 4 is] the end of the book and someone is going to write a new book.

“Who knows what that new book will be but this is an ending and that’ll be a new beginning.”

Avengers 4 will be released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019.
