Avengers Infinity War: Black Panther twist defended by writers amid fan outcry (SPOILERS)

WARNING: Major spoilers ahead for Avengers – Infinity War.

The Marvel movie hit cinemas last week and has sent shockwaves through audiences with its enormous body count.

Among the dead was, shockingly, King T’Challa – despite his own movie, Black Panther, becoming one of the most successful of all time just a few months ago.

But speaking to Buzzfeed, writer Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely defended the decision to have him be a victim of the Snap, which wipes out 50% of humanity at the end of the film.

“First of all, we would do it all over again,” McFeely insisted.

“But remember, when we’re writing [Infinity War], and even shooting, there is no Black Panther movie. We don’t know it’s going to be so good, so effective, so resonant.

“And we had to treat all these characters the same. People who leave us [in Infinity War] are the leads of their own franchises. And Black Panther’s no different.”

Markus added: “We wanted that thing that happens at the end of that movie to have as much impact as possible.

“If you’re very carefully getting rid of your supporting cast, then it does seem like you’re pulling your punch.”

It wasn’t just Chadwick Boseman’s character who lost out – there was also Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, already officially confirmed to be getting his own sequel.

You also have Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 to worry about, which – as it stands – could comprise just of Rocket and Nebula.

But it seems we’ll have to wait another year before we know whether or not there’s any return for these characters, and if any of the many fan theories are correct.

Given that the writers have indicated that the deaths are permanent, where exactly do we go from here?
