Avengers Infinity War: WHERE is Thanos’ reunion with THAT character at the movie's end?

WARNING: Major spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War.

The new Marvel movie ends with half of all humanity being wiped out, after Thanos collects all of the Infinity Stones.

The death toll includes many MCU favourites, from King T’Challa to Spider-Man – but Thanos appeared to be reunited with someone he killed much earlier.

The Josh Brolin-played alien came face-to-face with the child version of his adopted daughter Zoe Saldana’s Gamora, in a mysterious silent realm – where he admits that his plan cost him “everything”.

Speculation has been ongoing as to where exactly that scene is: some assume it is a real magical world, others think it is just in his head, while some have theorised that it is inside the Soul Stone – the discovery of which ended in Gamora’s death.

At a recent Q and A, co-director Joe Russo alluded heavily to the latter being true, saying: “Yeah, it’s — it’s implied it’s the Soul Stone.

“It’s all orange around, then he’s inside the Soul Stone with the amount of power that it took to snap his fingers.”

But that’s not necessarily the definitive answer, with a visual effects supervisor giving a totally different answer.

Speaking to CNET, Kelly Port, who works for Digital Domain – the company who worked for Infinity War – gave her own two cents.

“I certainly haven’t been told this by Marvel or anybody, but I think it’s in his mind,” she said.

“It’s not a physical place, it’s not a memory, even. I think we want to keep it kind of open to interpretation.

“I think the meat of it is Thanos in his mind connecting with his daughter. It just seems like an internal moment of reflection.

“It’s this really nice dramatic pause at basically the culmination of 10 years of storytelling, right?

“It’s this moment where he can just have this moment to internally reflect on what he’s done and the cost of that decision.”

With so many Marvel favourites turning to ash at the end of Infinity War, many have already theorised that some will be somehow recovered in Avengers 4, due out next year.

Certainly Saldana, whose Gamora wasn’t even a victim of that fateful Snap, has hinted that she appears in the next film in some capacity.

So is there hope for her yet?
