Avengers Infinity War: What is Fortnite update? When is Fortnite x Avengers release?

Epic Games and Marvel have announced the unprecedented crossover this week, which will see the Mad Titan Thanos drop on Fortnite’s Battle Royale mode for a limited time.

The crossover announcement was made on Twitter yesterday in a post from Epic, with an image featuring both Omega and an image of Thanos in Fortnite-ish animation style.

The advert says “Snap” in the background and promises a “limited time mashup” between Fortnite and Marvel’s Avengers.

And it reads: “The battle begins tomorrow.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, the limited time crossover will start today on Tuesday, May 8.

The limited time mashup will see 100 players descend on the map, left to fight until the last player is standing.

And the battle will have one major difference thanks to Thanos’ presence – as the Infinity Gauntlet will be in play.

Containing all six infinity stones, the artefact will be dropped somewhere on the map and whoever find the gauntlet will transform into the Mad Titan.

It is believed the crossover idea was conceived because Avengers: Infinity War co-directors Joe and Anthony Russo are apparently massive Fornite fans.

“Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games,” Joe exclusively told EW.

“And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers–Fortnite mashup? So we stalked Donald.”

Donald Mustard, the worldwide creative director of Epic Games, added: “Out of the blue, I get this call from Joe. And after a bit of geeking out over each other’s work, we start brainstorming these crazy ideas.

“It was really important that whatever we did, it had to be super authentic to both Fortnite and the Avengers: Infinity War, and something that fans of both would be excited about.

“About an hour later, we had the bones of this awesome idea for a limited time gameplay mode, and almost immediately our team got started.”
