WARNING: Spoilers ahead for Avengers: Infinity War.

Brie Larson will make her MCU debut in the caper, bringing to life one of the universe’s most powerful superheroes.

Captain Marvel was contacted by Samuel L Jackson’s Nick Fury in the end credits scene of Infinity War, as half of humanity was turning to dust thanks to Thanos.

Writing on Reddit, user OJT6627 suggested a way in which the brief story beat could allude to what happens in the upcoming movie, which is set in the 1990s.

“I wanna recall the events of the Infinity War post-credits scene first. Nick Fury and Maria Hill are driving in a car, discussing the events happening in New York and Wakanda in the last hours,” they wrote.

“Then a car crashes in front of them, but there seems to be no one inside it. Then helicopter crashes into the building and all around chaos erupts.

“Fury tells Maria to initiate Red Code alarm (not sure how it was called in English version, I watched Russian dub), and then Maria says ‘Nick, what’s happening?’ and turns into ashes while Fury watches…”

They added: “Here comes the interesting part: Fury, without any hesitation or any significant change in facial emotions, runs towards a car (even shrugging off a random pedestrian on his way), takes the pager to call Captain Marvel and barely manages to send the signal before he dissolves as well, saying ‘Ah damn, motherf-‘.

The Redditor noted Nick’s reaction as being more annoyed than surprised or even scared by the fact he was apparently dying.

This, they argued, could indicate that “Nick Fury already saw something similar before and definitely knew someone (cough Captain Marvel cough) who could help in such situations – leading us to possible events in Captain Marvel solo movie”.

Little is known about what’s in store for Larson’s debut, except that it will see her become one of the galaxy’s most powerful heroes as Earth gets caught in the middle of a conflict between alien worlds.

It will introduce us to the Kree, an advanced militaristic alien race who are humanoid in appearance but have blue skin.

Larson is joined by Djimon Hounsou as Korath, a Kree mercenary, while Gemma Chan will portray a Kree geneticist. Ben Mendelsohn, Lee Pace, Clark Gregg and Jude Law are also set to star.

Captain Marvel is out on March 8, 2019.
