Avengers Infinity War: Iron Man for THIS heartbreaking Spider-Man shock in sequel?

WARNING: Major spoilers for Avengers: Infinity War ahead.

The movie ended with Thanos killing 50% of all humanity after collecting all the six Infinity Stones, with many Marvel favourites – including Spider-Man – among the dead.

So now questions are raised over how Avengers 4, which doesn’t yet have its official title, will play out – as well as the sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, which was confirmed last year to start within “minutes” of Avengers 4’s conclusion.

Taking to Reddit, 10_zing posed the idea that Tony Stark’s Iron Man could even take the role of Uncle Ben for Peter Parker.

They wrote: “Looks like Avengers 4 is gearing up to be Iron Man’s last and we know Spider-Man should come back then as well (with Homecoming 2 scheduled)

“We know from the past couple movies and Infinity War especially that Tony is like a mentor to Peter.

“I think MCU is going to make Tony’s death what Uncle Ben’s death was originally. They might even [make] Iron Man’s death similar by having Peter somehow let Thanos (or another bad guy) go.

“And of course, if they do go this way, I hope they have Tony tell Peter (or maybe not just him but all the other Avengers too) ‘With Great Power comes Great Responsibilities’.”

“And Thanos did say, ‘I hope they remember you’, and what better way for him to be remembered besides having Tony be the Uncle Ben for Peter (or everyone else also).”

It may be a bit of a stretch to have Tony say that particularly iconic line, but having Stark as the Uncle Ben figure for this current incarnation of Peter Parker is certainly interesting.

Peter’s final moments in Infinity War were particularly heartbreaking for fans, and it’s since been revealed that actor Tom Holland improvised those last lines himself.

Stark was one of few Marvel favourites to still be alive at the end of the movie – the others including original Avengers Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), War Machine (Don Cheadle) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth).

Nebula (Karen Gillan), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper) were also still standing.

Avengers 4 is out in May 2019.
