The actress, who shot to global stardom in the Fifty Shades of Grey movies, plays Susie Bannion in the film, a re-do of the 1977 movie of the same name.

In images shared on the production’s official Twitter page today, she is seen with long red hair.

The movie is about an aspiring dancer who goes to Germany to attend a famous ballet school in Berlin.

Whilst there, students begin to disappear – and she realises the school ha sa dark history of witchcraft and horrific deaths.

Tilda Swinton stars alongside Johnson as Madame Blanc, alongside Chloe Grace Moretz, Mia Goth and Jessica Harper.

Luca Guadagnino, fresh from the tender romance Call Me By Your Name, is on director duties.

At CinemaCon late last month, audiences were shown footage of Suspiria – and it made quite the first impression.

“It’s one of the most f**ked up things I’ve ever seen at #CinemaCon,” Collider’s Steven Weintraub tweeted.

“People at my table turned away from the screen. All I can say is it’s beyond extreme and gross and I need to see more.”

Peter Sciretta posted: “First clip from Suspiria invokes a dancer being thrown around like a rag doll telekinetically in a mirrored rehearsal space, bones breaking, becoming a contorted mess.

“Very gruesome and hard to watch. This film will make most people feel uneasy. #CinemaCon.”
