Deadpool 2: Josh Brolin nearly REJECTED Cable role – here’s why he changed his mind

Brolin, who has also recently been seen in Avengers: Infinity War, said in a TV interview he was reluctant to take up another superhero-based movie so soon after his last.

Speaking to Jimmy Fallon, he recalled: “I almost turned it down – but I have the greatest wife ever.

“I was in the middle of Avengers, I was tired, and they said, ‘do you want to do this thing?’

“I said, ‘I’ve already decided to do one of these movies [Avengers]’, and [they said], ‘wait, do you want to do this other one?’”

He continued: “And my wife said, ‘why don’t you just read it?’

“And then I read it and it was really funny – and it’s Ryan Reynolds, man!”

Deadpool 2 sees Reynolds reprising his role as the titular hero, and finally hits cinemas this weekend.

Reviews have so far been mostly positive, with Rotten Tomatoes reporting a strong 86% approval rating.

The critics’ consensus reads: “Though it threatens to buckle under the weight of its meta gags, Deadpool 2 is a gory, gleeful lampoon of the superhero genre buoyed by Ryan Reynolds’ undeniable charm.”

Not everyone is a fan, though – with Time Out giving just two out of five.

“It’s a long movie and when its star isn’t on screen and cracking wise, the boundary-pushing shocks and endless self-references wear thin,” they said.

Us Weekly agreed: “In two years, Deadpool has gone from the scrappy class clown to the annoying wiseass in the back of the room spewing crude insults to amuse himself.”

But in more positive feedback, Variety said: “In almost every respect, this sequel is an improvement on its 2016 predecessor: Sharper, grosser, more narratively coherent and funnier overall, with a few welcome new additions.”

Zazie Beetz, Morena Baccarin and Julian Dennison also star in the R-Rated sequel.
