Kate Middleton dress: Is Kate’s dress cream or yellow? Did she try to outdo Meghan?

Kate Middleton, 36, wore Alexander McQueen to attend the Royal Wedding today.

While mum-of-three Kate looked stunning, many are wondering if the outfit she chose, which consisted of a plain dress and summer coat, was yellow or cream in colour.

While yellow would have been an obvious choice for such a bright and sunny day, cream is controversial.

This is because it is considered very rude to wear any variation of white as a guest at another woman’s wedding, let alone that of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry.

Twitter users were quick to pick up on Kate’s supposed poor form, and debated the colour of the outfit in their droves.

One wrote: “I need to know…is it okay that Kate Middleton wore cream? #RoyalWedding”.

Another said: “Kate Middleton in cream there – I’d be livid! #RoyalWedding”.

And some fans were left shocked by her choice, with one writing: “Kate Middleton wearing cream for the wedding…disappointed in ya Hun x”.

Noting that it could be construed as rude to Meghan, one wrote: “Except its in the royal etiquette book only the bride wears white. This is a SLAM at the bride.” (sic)

But others were not so scathing as they believed the outfit to be a shade of yellow. Declaring their choice, one wrote: “Kate Middleton’s dress looks yellow to me not white. I think she looks fantastic after giving birth so recently #RoyalWedding”.

Another pointed out that even though the outfit is yellow, a stylist should have realised it would look cream on TV.

They wrote: “Oh #KateMiddleton I know your dress was a very light yellow but someone should have stopped you and said that is going to play as white on camera you need to pick something more yellow or a different colour all together.

“#RoyalWedding beautiful as always but unfortunate choice”.

And one more weighed in, saying: “If you think Kate Middleton’s dress was white, you’re literally colorblind, it was deff yellow” (sic).

While the outfit does appear to be a pale colour, it looks more like a yellow tone when Kate is stood next to Princess Charlotte, who wears a brilliant white flower girl dress.

In a statement, Kensington Palace confirmed it as a “primrose yellow wool silk tailored coat”.

“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge will be wearing a primrose yellow wool silk tailored coat by Alexander McQueen,” the statement read.

“The Duchess of Cambridge is wearing a hat designed by Philip Treacy and shoes by Jimmy Choo,” it continued.

Kate has worn the Alexander McQueen number many times before. She often rewears her favourite outfits again and again.

This outfit has been seen at Princess Charlotte’s christening in 2015, Trooping the Colour in 2016 and at an event marking the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele on July 30, 2017 in Belgium.
