Avengers Infinity War ending meaning: What happened in Avengers post credit scene?
The Marvel Cinematic Universe unleashed a barrage of destruction and heartbreak in Infinity War, in a way fans had never seen before.
Supervillain Thanos seemed unstoppable in his quest to collect all six infinity stones, with the heroes unable to prevent his reign of terror on the universe.
Heartbroken fans have called on one another to explain what happened in the post-credits scene in a bid to explain how the universe could be saved from destruction.
WARNING SPOILERS FROM HERE
As Thanos collected the sixth and final infinity stone, fans watched in disbelief as the titan clicked his fingers and wiped half of the universe from existence.
A flurry of heroes have faded away into dust, including Spider-Man, Black Panther, Bucky Barnes, and Scarlet Witch.
What happens in the post-credits scene?
After the horror that has befallen the Avengers, The Guardians, and Black Panther cast – we see Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) caught up in the chaos of half the universe vanishing.
A pilot-less helicopter smashes into a building, whilst Fury and Hill end up in a crash with a car missing its driver.
As Hill fades away, Fury desperately scrambles to the back of his car for a strange device.
Managing at the last second to press the button on the pager-like device, Fury too fades away to dust.
It appears that he summoned or warned someone of what was happening, but who is this mystery person?
Who did Nick Fury call?
Fans around the world have been questioning who Fury managed to contact, however, those who have read the comic books will recognise the symbol that flashes on the screen.
It belongs to Captain Marvel, who is one of the most powerful beings in all of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers, is an ex-pilot who managed to gain superhuman powers from an alien race known as the Kree.
Her abilities include magnified strength, speed, ability to fly and ability to survive in space.
Does this mean that Danvers is, in fact, the saviour of the Marvel Universe?
Fans will have to wait to find out, as the next installment of Avengers is not due to be released until May 2019, however, Captain Marvel will be revealed in her very own film out in March 2019.
Actress Brie Larson is set to play Captain Marvel, and given the massive amount of money Avengers Infinity War has made at the box office, Marvel Studios seem to have a sure-fire hit on their hands.
Infinity War has managed to secure a $1.6 billion opening weekend, and with the dramatic cliffhanger at the end of the film, fans are sure to be pining for the next film with Avengers 4 being released in the summer of 2019.
