Spider-Man Homecoming 2: Does THIS prove the Sinister Six is FINALLY happening?
Marvel comic fans will know that the Sinister Six are a group of super-villains who take on Spider-Man.
While they’ve not appeared in a movie yet, Sony Pictures have attempted to bring them to the big screen in the past.
At the end of 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the Sinister Six were teased as gadgets like Doctor Octopus’ tentacles and Vulture’s wings were spotted in glass cases.
The film studio even had plans for a Sinister Six movie for late 2016. However since Sony’s deal with Marvel, Spider-Man is now appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the form of Tom Holland.
And now there’s a couple of clues that next year’s Spider-Man Homecoming sequel will in fact be the long-awaited Sinister Six movie.
The first came in the form of Homecoming’s mid-credits scene which showed Michael Keaton’s Vulture arriving in prison and bumping into his old associate, Mac Gargan, who is a little scarred up.
Comic book fans will know his character becomes the villain known as The Scorpion.
Actor Michael Mando, who played the baddie, revealed he would be playing Scorpion before Spider-Man Homecoming was released.
In the scene with Vulture (aka Adrian Toomes), Scorpion asks him for the true identity of the Web Slinger – as he wants revenge for Spidey’s involvement in his arrest.
While Vulture knows Spider-Man is Peter Parker, he won’t let Scorpion know.
Nevertheless Scorpion replies: “I’ve got some friends on the outside.”
And now Variety is reporting that Keaton’s Vulture will return, while Jake Gyllenhaal is in talks to play Mysterio – that’s three characters who have been members of the Sinister Six in the comics.
Of course the Sinister Six’s lineup changes in the comics so there’s a selection for Sony and Marvel to chose from.
The most likely addition is Doctor Octopus – the team’s leader – who was last portrayed by Alfred Molina in Spider-Man 2.
Also Sandman, last seen played by Thomas Haden Church in Spider-Man 3 is a contender – as are Electro, Kraven the Hunter and more.
The untitled Spider-Man Homecoming sequel is set for release on July 5, 2019.
