Geyser eruption in pictures: Iceland's Strokkur geyser violently ERUPTS
The 20-metre high eruption brought with it a fierce roar as the water turned dark and suddenly bulged into an enormous ball which shot skyward.
Tim, a graphic designer, took the striking image while touring the Golden Circle of Iceland.
The moment occurred as he photographed Strokkur, one of the world’s few geysers that frequently erupt every six to ten minutes.
Located in the Haukadalur Valley, Strokkur is one of about 1,000 active geysers around the world, with tourists flocking to see the great natural wonder.
Almost all geysers are located close to volcano fields, as cooling magma provides a heat source.
When water on the surface makes its way underground into the bedrock, it comes into contact with hot rocks and begins to boil.
The pressure then builds up, causing the steam and hot water to shoot through a surface vent, at temperatures of up to 100 degrees celsius.
