George RR Martin's The Ice Dragon movie CONFIRMED: Will script delay Winds of Winter more?

The 69-year-old A Song of Ice and Fire author is a very busy man.

Not only does he have The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring to go, but is also busy with the Game of Thrones TV show, planned spin-offs, Targaryen history Fire & Blood and more.

And now it looks like Martin has even more to distract himself from finishing The Winds of Winter – a book he’s been writing for at least seven years.

Now The Hollywood Reporter have revealed that his children’s novel, The Ice Dragon, is to become an animated movie.

Warner Animation Group have purchased the rights and Martin has been confirmed as producer.

The Ice Dragon follows Adara, a girl with a connection to, you guessed it, an ice dragon.

And when a group of the mythical beasts threatens to destroy her world, the two must team up to stop them.

It’s also been reported he may be writing the script, which “will undoubtedly scare Game of Thrones fans who are awaiting him to finish the latest, long-in-the-works and who knows when it comes out novel.”

The author added: “I do want to stress… indeed, I want to shout… that Fire and Blood is not a novel.

“This is not a traditional narrative and was never intended to be… let’s call this one ‘imaginary history’ instead.

“The essential point being the ‘history’ part. I love reading popular histories myself, and that’s what I was aiming for here…”

Nevertheless he reassured fans: “As for me, I’m returning once again to The Winds of Winter.”
