Infinity war has only just finished killing a staggering number of superheroes and their friends.

Now the Marvel-adjacent Merc With A Mouth is doing more of the same.

Deadpool 2 has shocked audiences by brutally dispatching characters who seemd to be set up for X-Force, as well as one beloved old favourite.

Ryan Reynolds and his director have confirmed, however, that only one of them will be brought back to life for X-Force.

WARNING MAJOR SPOILERS

It is almost certain that there will be no Deadpool 3 next.

Instead Reynolds and his team are focussed on building the X-Force franchise.

So why kill off so many of them in Deadpool 2? Will the movies follow the Marvel Cinematic Universe and attempt to rewrite history? Especially since Cable and Deadpool now have time travel devices…

Deadpool won’t do anything so simple. In fact, only one major favourite is guaranteed to be brought back to life.

Deadpool has a pretty dodgy moral compass. Only one person has ever made him want to be a better man.

Even though audiences love Wade Wilson being as foul-mouthed and outrageous as possible, somehow Vanessa humanises him while managing to be utterly lovable as well as refreshingly naughty, herself.

Her loss devastated fans as much as the anti-hero himself. And then he was seen going back in time to save her in the end credits.

Will this stick for future movies? The filmmakers have good news for fans.

Reynolds told Collider: “It was obviously that was hugely debated internally for us. Do we do this, do we not do this? That sort of idea of Deadpool snatching Cable’s time traveling device and using it in an incredibly irresponsible, reckless way was sort of too good to pass up for us.

“But I also like to think that Vanessa is alive and well.”

Director David Leitch added: “We see that he saved her… In my opinion, the whole point of going back in time was to save her so she’d be alive.

“Yes, we brought her back. It was intentional. It was something I wanted from the beginning. It was my coda idea to steal the time travel device, and that got everyone really excited and started to generate a lot of ideas, especially Ryan who’s like, ‘I’ve got some things I want to fix!’”
