Avengers Infinity War: Is Hulk or Thanos STRONGER? Writers reveal all

Hulk was the reigning champion of the universe.

He flung Loki around like a rag doll in the first Avengers movie and even thrashed Thor in the arena during Ragnarok.

His opening battle with Thanos on the Asgardian ship established just how terrifying the Mad Titan was. Even when the not very jolly green giant appeared to be winning, Ebony Maw casually observed that his master was just having fun.

But what would happen if Thanos was not already powered up with the, well, Power Stone?

In a major new interview the movie’s writers revealed why that scene was included and who really is the strongest creature in the movie.

Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus wrote Captain America Civil War and Winter Soldier. They have crafted the Infinity War movie and its sequel alongside The Russo brothers. They are the current undisputed masters of the MCU.

McFeely told Collider: “I may be speaking out of turn, but I think Thanos could kick the Hulk’s ass without the (Power Stone).”

McFeely explained that it was vital for Thanos to quickly be established as a terrifying and seemingly invincible villain and the devstating scene on the Asgardian ship was the quickest way to do that.

Not only did he easily bat aside gods like Loki and Thor, he toyed with Hulk like a cat with a (green) mouse.

The writer said: “We want to announce Thanos as the biggest villain in the MCU, so he takes out the previous reigning champion. And by defeating Hulk relatively easily and savagely, hopefully there’s a sense of dread over the course of the rest of the movie for anyone else who comes up against him.”

Perhaps this is why Hulk sulked and refused to come out for the rest of the movie?

Either way, it’s safe to say that everyone in the universe (and Earth’s cinemas) was terrified of Thanos by the end of the movie.
