Avengers Infinity War end credits: Writers reveal why Ant-Man was saved for Avengers 4
WARNING SPOILERS FOR AVENGERS INFINITY WAR AHEAD
In the run up to Avengers Infinity War’s release fans were wondering where Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man could be.
And it soon became apparent he wouldn’t feature in the movie, but maybe, just maybe, he’d be in the end credits scene?
Sadly for fans he didn’t make an appearance, but Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel was teased instead.
Speaking in a new interview with Collider, Avengers Infinity War writers Stephen McFeely and Christopher Markus opened up on the thinking behind it.
“We thought, ‘do you want to give any hope?’” McFeely said. “It’s a tragedy and tragedies end in a grim and sad end.”
Markus added: “When you end it like that, there aren’t too many other places you can go [for a tag scene].
“Marvel tags often point to the next movie coming. The next movie is Ant-Man and the Wasp, which is light-hearted – you don’t wanna go, ‘but meanwhile! Paul Rudd is still adorable!’”
So instead it just had to be that Captain Marvel tease.
“We wanted to give a bit of hope to people,” McFeely reasoned. “And that was the best chance we had.”
Nevertheless Ant-Man returns in Ant-Man and the Wasp on August 3.
The adventure is set after the events of Captain America: Civl War, but before Avengers Infinity War.
Nevertheless, Ant-Man and the Wasp should give clues to how the Avengers can fight back in Avengers 4.
Avengers 4 will be released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019.
