Avengers 4: Did Doctor Strange time travel to join Captain Marvel before Infinity War fate

Reddit has been a hotbed of fan theories relating to Avengers 4 after a dramatic end credit scene left Marvel enthusiasts in shock and disbelief.

The post credit scene of Avengers: Infinity War showed Nick Fury, in his final moments, sending a distress signal to Captain Marvel.

But how did he know to call her, specifically?

This is where the fan theory comes into play.

Did Doctor Strange travel back in time to join Captain Marvel in the 1990s before Infinity War fate?

Reddit user WamsyTheOneAndOnly believes so, explaining on Reddit: “Doctor Strange knew that Thanos had to snap his fingers at that exact right time and under all these certain conditions for them to win.

“I believe he’ll appear in the Captain Marvel movie and tell Fury it is vital for him to carry around with him the pager to contact Captain Marvel,” they added.

It seems that the fact Nick Fury knew exactly who to call is a good indicator pointing to watfs this theory.

Either Fury knows that Captain Marvel is integral to defeating Thanos, or he knows that he’s supposed to be looking out for her – the latter of which would lend itself to the theory.

Given that Nick Fury is set to appear in the Captain Marvel film, it’s more than likely that Dr Strange travelled back in time to the 1990s to tell Fury, and Captain Marvel, what to look out for.

The Reddit user went on to explain that Nick Fury’s reaction to the Snap seems not to be one of surprise, but awareness.

“Fury’s instant reaction to seeing Maria Hill turn to ash was to run to the pager, but what our good friend Sorcerer Supreme didn’t mention was the fact that he does not survive hence the “Mother Fu…” at the very end,” WamsyTheOneAndOnly wrote.

Doctor Strange may not have warned Nick that he too would turn to dust, but if this theory proves to be true then Nick clearly trusts in Doctor Strange.

Some doubters will say if Captain Marve knew about the Snap, why didn’t she come to the rescue during Infinity War?

The fact that Nick Fury can even reach her by pager suggests Captain Marvel is staying away by choice.

If you buy into the theory though, she might be gone by design.

The theory goes onto the say that Doctor Strange’s warning to Fury could have been to both Fury and Captain Marvel.

Doctor Strange could have told Captain Marvel that she had to remove herself from the situation so she could come back and be useful at the time to make the best future happen.

Whatever you think of the theory that Doctor Strange travelled back in time to visit Captain Marvel and Nick Fury, it’ll be proven true or false when Captain Marvel hits cinemas.
