Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom might be scary to some, but for others, it’s an action romp with dinosaurs fit for everybody.

Families looking to take their kids to the cinema for Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom will have to be sure that it’s appropriate.

What is the age rating for Fallen Kingdom?

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom is rated 12A.

Most people assume this means it’s suitable for anyone 12 and up, but there’s more to it.

Movies rated 12A are suitable for people 12 years and over.

No one younger than 12 may see a 12A film in a cinema unless accompanied by an adult, so friends heading to the cinema may want to make sure a parent is with them.

The British Board of Film Classification has a list of the different criteria they measure for the rating.

For Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, you might want to consider imitable behaviour, threat, and violence.

Given there are dinosaurs on the loose and shady villains scheming, it makes sense that these would need taking into consideration.

However, the very existence of dinosaurs in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom means hopefully people wouldn’t want to imitate the behaviour displayed on the screen.

The exact wording on language is: “Strong language may be permitted, depending on the manner in which it is used, who is using the language, its frequency within the work as a whole and any special contextual justification.”

The main threat in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom isn’t actually the dinosaurs, but the baddies played by Rafe Spall and Toby Jones.

JURASSIC WORLD FALLEN KINGDOM RUNNING TIME: HOW LONG IS JURASSIC WORLD?

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom has plenty of violence. Understandable really, given the dinosaurs.

The 12A rating states: “There should be no emphasis on injuries or blood, but occasional gory moments may be permitted if justified by the context.”

The whole dinosaur rampage thing means the violence is probably justified by the context.

All in all, 12A means the movie is just family friendly enough that you can get away with bringing your pre-teens along to the cinema.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom is in cinemas now.
