Incredibles 2 has just premiered in theatres, bringing a whole new cartoon look to the superhero genre. 

The first Incredibles movie (2004) was a runaway success, becoming one of Pixar’s most successful films. 

Incredibles 2 follows on from the events of the first film, with the Parr family coming to terms with becoming fully fledged superheroes after saving the world from the evil Syndrome. 

Pre-ticket sales numbers show that Incredibles 2 is likely to be a smash-hit among fans, but when does it come out? 

When does Incredibles 2 come out?

After nearly 14 years, Pixar finally creates a sequel to its smash hit film Incredibles. 

Incredibles 2 debuted in LA this week to rave critical reception. 

The film was originally scheduled for release on June 21, 2019, but was moved up by almost a year to be released on June 15, 2018 to avoid conflict with the highly anticipated Toy Story 4.

Incredibles 2 will be released in IMAX and IMAX 3D, with fans expecting the light-hearted, cartoonish charm to shine through after such a long wait from the first film.

How successful has Incredibles 2 been?

Box Office projections have the Incredibles 2 at an incredibly high reception, with advance ticket sales showing record numbers.

Incredibles 2 is already outpacing the pre-sales of Finding Dory (2016), the last Pixar film to hit cinemas. 

Compared to superhero films, Incredibles 2 is punching with the best of them, outselling DC’s Wonder Woman and Suicide Squad, as well as Marvel/Sony’s Spider-Man: Homecoming. 

Early predictions have Incredibles 2 grossing $140 million domestically (US and Canada).

To give it context, the first Incredibles film made £261 million domestically in its entire cinema runtime of 23 weeks. 

What is Incredibles 2 about?

The latest Pixar instalment follows the Parr family as they struggle to deal with the various incredible superpowers each of them hold, while still keeping the family ‘normal’.

Directed by Brad Bird, Incredibles 2 sees family tension mixed up with the ability to travel at sonic speeds, super strength and a demonic, laser shooting baby called Jack-Jack. 

The IMDB synopsis said: “Bob Parr (Mr. Incredible) is left to care for Jack-Jack while Helen (Elastigirl) is out saving the world.”
