Star Wars Solo FLOP: 'Rian Johnson trilogy DROPPED by Disney'?

There is a major disturbance in the Force.

Things may be looking bad for our plucky rebel heroes right now as they flee the massacre on Crait, but it’s looking even worse over here in our corner of the galaxy.

Following the disastrous performance of Solo and the ongoing rift with a major part of the established fandom who hated Jonson’s Last Jedi, US film site Collider reported that Disney has put the brakes on the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi movie with Ewan McGregor and any other future spin-off Anthology movies.

Now an even more shocking report claims that the unpopular Johnson may find his hugely divisive trilogy will be canned as well.

One US commentator said: “They (Disney and Lucasfilm) are trying to figure out what the new Star Wars trilogy is going to be and right now there is a lot of talk that Disney may very well cancel Rian Johnson’s trilogy…

“In the wake of the Solo box office results and the Last Jedi backlash we’ve seen division in the Star Wars community and it seems Disney and Lucasfilm have recognised this and they are trying to reform their ideas. That is why they have put all the other projects on hold.

“After Episode 9 there will be a new trilogy with no spin-off (in between).”

That new trilogy was expected to be Johnson’s much-heralded alternative look at the Star Wars galaxy away from the Skywalkers and the established planets and factions previously shown.

But Star Wars Youtube channel Mike Zeroh added: “There is a huge rumour that Rian Johnson’s trilogy is not happening.”

The outpouring of jubilant comments to his report is testimony to the powerful opposition felt by many aggrieved fans over The Last Jedi and the storyline and tonal decisions made by Johnson and Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy.

However it is important to remember these are just rumours at the moment.

Furthermore, Johnson’s producing partner Ram Bergman stated this week that plans for their trilogy are still underway, if barely begun.

From the Grapevine asked him when fans can expect to see the first movies: “I can’t tell you because we don’t know yet. Maybe in two years; it’s just in the early stages.”

A lot can change between now and then…
