Want to help your local library win $25,000 in children’s books?

JetBlue is offering an opportunity to make that happen through its Soar with Reading #BookWithUs program.

As part of the program, the airline will donate both $25,000 in children’s books and a reading room makeover for a local library or community organization.

But the airline is seeking votes on which deserving community should be the winner. The first round of voting ends July 20. After that point, the top four cities in each geographic region will move to a final round of voting that ends August 31.

The regions are the Northeast; Latin America and Caribbean; Southeast; and finally West and Midwest. Each region includes a list of individual cities that contest participants can vote on.

JetBlue launched Soar with Reading in 2011 to encourage kids’ imaginations to take flight through reading and in order to get books into the hands of kids who need them most.

A 2001 study found that there is access to only one age-appropriate book for every 300 children in underserved communities.

Since creating the program, $3 million worth of books have been donated to kids in need by JetBlue and its partners.

Fort Lauderdale, Florida was the 2017 #BookBattle winner, and recipient of 100,000 books.
