Star Wars 9 Obi-Wan Kenobi CAMEO reports 'EwanMcGregor filming in secret'

A new report says McGregor is due to slip back into his Jedi robes, but not for the long-anticipated standalone Anthology movie.

Following the disastrous box office performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story, numerous sites reported that Disney was putting all future Star Wars Story spin-offs on indefinite hold.

McGregor hasn’t been seen in the Star Wars galaxy since 2005’s Return of the Sith and was expected to make a grand return headlining the next Anthology outing which has been teased for almost two years.

Fans were suddenly worried they would not see him back on screen as Obi-wan ever again.

Instead, it seems he will be back even sooner than expected when Episode 9 hits cinemas next Christmas.

A US source said: “Ewan will secretly film for the next Star Wars movie.

“Disney have been mulling over a stand-alone film for Obi-Wan. There have been concerns about getting the story right.”

Disney released a statement to ABC news this week denying that any projects had been put on hold following the Solo movie flop and ongoing boycotts by core Star Wars fans still furious about Rian Johnson’s divisive Last Jedi.

However, leaks continue to circulate that Disney will adopt a more cautious approach to revisiting iconic legacy characters from the previous trilogies. 

Including Obi-Wan in Episode 9 seems like a logical compromise, athough unlikely to satisfy fans who were much more engaged with his spin-off than the troubled Han Solo origin story.

There is also an issue of where Obi-Wan could fit into any narrative. His voice was briefly heard in the Force Tree scene from Episode 8, but his primary link has always been with Luke.

There have also ben reports that Yoda will return in Episode 9. Will all three Jedi masters appear to Rey to offer guidance?

An even more tantalising prospect is a scene involving Kylo Ren.

His character has always been riven with internal conflict. Who better to try and save him than the man who trained his father? Obi-Wan was not able to stop Anakin’s descent to the Dark Side, will the final movie finally redeem all the Skywalkers and those who shaped their lives?
