They’re the two biggest characters in the Cinematic Universe and both survived Avengers Infinity War.

But with Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans’ contracts ending after Avengers 4, surely one or both of them will kick the bucket in their final outing?

After all directors The Russo Brothers have teased that bringing back the dead Avengers will come at an “incredibly high cost”.

So will Captain America or Iron Man die sacrificially in their place to resurrect them?

One fan on Tumblr reckons there are clues that Cap will die in Iron Man’s arms found in scenes from previous MCU movies.

Starkravinghazelnuts points out there is “recurring imagery of either Tony or Steve hovering over the other one prone on the ground.”

The first shot seeing Cap kneeling over a presumed dead Iron Man, after he fell back to Earth at the end of the Battle of New York in Avengers Assemble.

Next up they switch places in Avengers: Age of Ultron, with Tony over standing over a dying and then dead Steve.

In the Sokovia Accords table scene at Avengers HQ the survivors are on the left and those who died are on the right.

A coincidence? Fans will have to wait for the writers or directors to speak out.

Avengers 4 will be released in UK cinemas on April 26, 2019.
