Incredibles 2 post-credits: Does end credit teaser mean Incredibles 3 sequel on the cards?
Incredibles will return to cinema screens next month after a month 14-year wait since the original Pixar film was released.
And there are already rumours a third instalment could be on the cards.
Director Brad Bird hasn’t ruled out a third Incredibles movie, and fans with keen eyes may spot the 2D animated hint before the credits for an Incredibles 3.
Incredibles 2 does not make use of the well known cinematic device: the post-credit scene.
However, before the credits for Incredible 2 begin to run, there is a 2D animated reenactment of the Incredibles sequel plot.
Does end credit teaser mean Incredibles 3 sequel on the cards?
The final image in the 2D rendition features the Underminer’s drill driving across the screen.
This quick hint before the credits is a reminder to audiences the Underminer is still out there, yes to answer for his crimes.
The teaser has sent Incredibles fans wild with speculation.
This end clip could mean the Parrs may be back as the Incredible superheroes Elastigirl, Mr Incredible, Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack for Incredibles 3.
The Underminer’s escape was never wrapped up in Incredibles 2 as the Parrs had their hands full trying to defeat Screenslaver, restoring legal rights to supers, and dealing with their new baby’s plethora of powers.
The Underminer’s return, and capture would be a nice bow to the end of the Incredibles franchise.
But bad news for an Incredibles 3, Pixar is reported to be scaling back in its sequels despite their box office success.
So, despite the demand, there’s an equally good chance an Incredibles 3 doesn’t happen, and the teaser is just a tease.
But fans can still be optimistic.
During a conversation with Entertainment Weekly about Incredibles 2, Bird referenced a number of plots and characters who didn’t make it into Incredibles 2.
Reasonably, fans are wondering if this adds credence to a third movie theory where these characters will make their way to the big screen.
INCREDIBLES 2 SHORT: WHAT WAS THE PIXAR SHORT BEFORE INCREDIBLES 2?
The Incredibles characters and storyboards which didn’t make it into the sequel haven’t been wholly abandoned.
A third Incredibles movie also has support from stars like Samuel L Jackson, who said he’d like to see a Mr Incredible/Frozone origin movie.
But fans shouldn’t hold their breath. After all, it took 14 years for the Incredibles 2 movie to make its way to cinemas — and it’s not even in UK ones yet.
Incredibles 2 is in UK cinemas Friday, July 13, 2018.
