Man Utd transfer news: Ed Woodward learns update on Willian deal after Chelsea decision

Jose Mourinho has been eyeing a reunion with the Chelsea ace and wants to bring him to Manchester United.

Willian has appeared frustrated at Stamford Bridge in recent months and would be open to a move away.

He featured less and less under Antonio Conte and posted a message after the FA Cup final win with the manager blanked out.

And despite Conte’s future looking likely to be away from west London Willian could still be on the move as Chelsea try to generate funds.

But, according to the Daily Mail, Chelsea have rejected a £50m bid from Barcelona.

And that means United would need to start their approaches higher than that to get a deal done.

United have already spent £52m on Fred and bought Diogo Dalot.

They are in the market for a centre-back, left-back and a wide forward.

They did want another midfielder until Marouane Fellaini agreed a new deal.

And with Anthony Martial and Juan Mata’s futures uncertain they need more options in attack.

Willian would fit the bill but now United are going to have to get their cheque book out.

Gareth Bale is another of interest although he may stay at Real Madrid following Zinedine Zidane’s resignation.

Bale is still waiting to talk to new boss Julen Lopetegui to get a feeling for his place in his thoughts.

And a deal for Willian appears more straightforward for United, although they may be surprised at the fee Chelsea will demand.

United signed Nemanja Matic from Chelsea last summer in a deal worth around £40m, and they would have expected to pay the same for Willian.

But now they may be looking at a £60m outlay for the Brazil ace who is currently at the World Cup and preparing to face Mexico on Monday.
