The Duchess of Cambridge’s hair was loosely gathered at the nape of her neck, with a few pieces hanging down at the front.

Katie Allan, Creative Manager at Charles Worthington Salons, was responsible for creating Kate’s stunning hairstyle.

But you don’t need a professional to achieve Kate’s red carpet look.

Katie revealed how you can re-create the hairstyle at home, in eight simple steps.

1. Blow dry hair as normal, applying a small amount of mousse while the hair is still damp at the root area to give extra lift and hold.

2. Gently backcomb the hair at the root from the back of the head through to the front.

3. Gather the hair into the nape of the neck and secure with a band.

4. Tong the ends of the ponytail to create a lose curl.

5. Twist the ponytail around your finger creating a bun and pin with kirby grips.

6. Use a soft bristle brush to smooth over the surface of the backcombing.

7. Use your fingers to loosen hair on the sides of the face to create a softer look.

8. Finish with a generous amount of hair spray.
